Nigeria’s most important athletics championship in the year, the All Nigeria Athletics Championships has been scheduled to take place at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna from July 25th – 27th.
This was made known by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), announcing in a letter released to the general public via their social media platforms.
The championship is open to all Nigerian athletes both home and abroad, and will be used as selection of athletes that’ll represent the country at the forthcoming African Games in Rabat, Morocco and World Championships in Doha, Qatar.
Asides the meet serving as trials of selection for the above named competitions, it’ll also see the athletes compete for the bragging rights of being called a National Champion in their events. Athletes who also achieve the IAAF World Championship standard in Kaduna, will get their flight tickets refunded.
Recall that the National Championships didn’t take place in 2018, as a peaceful protest by the athletes complaining about the non-nonchalant attitude of the federation towards their well-being, led to the cancellation of the meet.
