National 800m record holder, Edose Ibadin has taken another massive step in his professional career as he has signed with global shoe brand, Under Armour.
He made this known on his Instagram account stating:
“A man’s gift makes way for him, and brings him before great men. Grateful and happy to announce that I have officially signed with @underarmour @uarunning, I just want to thank God, my family, friends, coaches, and teammates who push me every day to be great. I promise to rep this brand to the best of my ability!”
Ibadin made his international debut for Nigeria, at the 2017 World Championships in London, where he failed to make it past the first round.
2018 became a breakout year for the 2015 Hampton University graduate, participating at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast and African Championships in Asaba.
He got to the semi-finals in the Australian city, before making his first final in the colours of the country in Asaba. But setting the outdoor National Record (NR) of 1:45.69, in Nashville Tennessee was the highlight of his season.
Interestingly, this year has seen him run more indoor record breaking times, first shattering his own 1000m NR of 2:22.85 with a new one of 2:21.00, and then smashing Gbolahan Fetuga’s 23-year old 800m NR of 1:49.63 with an outstanding 1:46.67.

This means he owns all indoor NR’s in 600m, 800m and 1000m while not forgetting his outdoor 800m NR as well, currently making him Nigeria’s only athlete with four NR’s in his name.
The Electrical Engineer will be joining an elite league of sports personalities signed to the shoe company, with notable names in WBC Heavyweight Champion, Anthony Joshua and NBA star, Steph Curry.
He’ll also be the latest addition to the handful of Nigerian athletes having shoe contract deals, which includes Blessing Okagbare (Nike), Tobi Amusan (Adidas) and Ese Brume (Adidas).
With this contract which will not only bring him more confidence on the track but financial stability as well leading to time drops, we hope this will increase his global success and titles, which’ll raise him to the level of the boxer and basketball player as well.
